How to play Jacks or Better

  1. Choose a coin size (1, 5, 10, or 25 chips) and press Bet One or Bet Max to set 1–5 coins.
  2. Press Deal to receive five cards.
  3. Tap the cards you want to keep — they are marked HELD. Tap again to release.
  4. Press Draw to replace every card you did not hold. Winning hands are paid from the pay table, which highlights your result.

Rules

  • One standard 52-card deck, freshly shuffled for every hand; replacement cards come from the same deck.
  • The lowest paying hand is a pair of Jacks or better (J, Q, K, or A).
  • Aces can be high (10-J-Q-K-A) or low (A-2-3-4-5) in straights; straights do not wrap around.
  • Pays are per coin. A Royal Flush pays 250 per coin, or 4,000 coins at five coins bet.

Pay table and return

This is the full-pay "9/6" version (9 for a full house, 6 for a flush). With optimal strategy and five coins bet it returns 99.54% over the long run; betting fewer coins lowers the return because of the smaller Royal Flush payout.

Strategy tips

  • Always hold a pat straight, flush, full house, or better.
  • Hold four cards to a Royal Flush even over a made flush or straight.
  • Hold any high pair (Jacks or better) over a four-card straight.
  • With nothing, hold high cards of the same suit; if you have no high cards at all, draw five new cards.
  • See Video Poker Hand Rankings for the full hand ladder.
